The challenge

Where the business was

A hardware retailer in Parner needed to sell online to customers who compare on specification, not on picture. A generic store template sorts by price and name; it cannot answer “which of these has 16GB and an i5”, which is the only question this buyer is asking.

Approach

How we approached it

Treat specifications as first-class filters rather than free text in a description, and keep cash on delivery as a first-class checkout path because it is what this customer base actually uses.

Filtering that matches how people buy hardware

Condition, price band, RAM and processor are structured filters, so a shopper narrows to the four machines that fit instead of scrolling ninety.

Eight categories, one navigation model

Accessories, components, desktops, laptops, monitors, networking, peripherals and storage each behave identically, so the store stays predictable as stock grows.

Cash on delivery as a real option

Advertised on the announcement bar and carried through checkout. For a first purchase from a regional retailer this removes the largest objection.

Policies that exist before they are needed

Shipping, returns, privacy and terms are written and linked, which matters both for buyer confidence and for payment-provider onboarding.

Delivered

What was built

  • Catalogue across eight product categories
  • Filtering by condition, price, RAM and processor
  • Cart, customer accounts and cash-on-delivery checkout
  • Shipping, returns, privacy and terms pages
  • Dark interface with a persistent mobile bottom bar
Stack
  • Python
  • Gunicorn
  • Bootstrap 5
Outcome

The retailer has a storefront that can be filtered the way its customers think, with accounts and COD checkout in place. Catalogue population is the owner's next step.

What we learned

Spec filters are only as good as the data behind them. The build spends more effort on a clean product schema than on the storefront itself.
